Digital imaging

·

Digital imaging Technology includes cameras videos and I phones and digital movie cameras.
A digital camera is a camera that takes video or still photographs or both by digitally by recording images via an electronic image sensor retrieved on April10 from   Wikipedia.org/wiki/digitalcamera
My understanding is limited Pixels are the small dots that make up the image
Most cameras use millions of pixels and a good standard one seems to be a 3Mp now.Although ours definitely is more retro and has less
Also digital cameras have digital zoom which basically crops the picture and Optical zoom which work like a zoom on a traditional camera.
OK my knowledge is not too great so please go to the following sites for more info on the technical side of things please see the experts try.

Photo shop is one piece of software that I’m able to understand and have used.it has helped even me clean up picture cutting of useless bits enlarging reducing red eye
photo shop and other software have many different templates and styles i.e comic book styles of your face

As part of the task we had download photos on flickr and Ive got to admit, I found it excellent and have already taken pictures on the paradise of dunners and especially of the peninsula and in my modest way have sent piccies back to mates bragging and subtly pointing out the negatives of the grey built up of the northeast
Some more soft ware if you want to stitch photos together of a route you,ve taken trywww.imaging-resource.com/SOFT.HTM

“A new technology is rarely superior to an old one in every feature”
digital photography
  Advantages of digital photography
Instant
can take loads of piccies and delete all the rubbish one (realy useful for baby shots)
Can save in many ways
can send straight away on email etc
only have to print what you need
dont need to buy film

Of course digital photography has many advantages over old cameras but I will always remember the art of non-digital photography. I still see it as a more pure art form. Photos could always be manipulated but as part of the process in the dark room rather in someone’s room on Photoshop.
I will definitely say digital cameras seem as much of the IT revolution does seem to have that limited life syndrome that most technology unlike older cameras that lasted forever!!

Given the prevalence of image capturing and distribution using IT, what ethical issues may arise with their use?

Again how easy is it is to be monitored with the use of video cameras on a small and large scale? In Britain the debate reigns on how many public areas are caught on camera .the fear of terrorism and being able to monitor your citizens(read this article arguing we live in a Orwellian society). www.thisislondon.co.uk/.../article-23391081-george-orwell-big-brother-is-watching-your-house.do -

As soon as a photo is up on the net you lose the power of control on it .I am always again probably paranoid about pictures of my children reaching the net .I see myself using goggle images to highlight something am saying and use it for my purpose is that right im not sure !! >Again for this blog im-using examples pulled from sources to help emphasis the point’s im trying to make.
·    Mobiles and their size and discreetness allow people to take pictures easily and send them to other people straight away. Text bullying has taken an even more sinister turn with sexting using explicit photos sent as texts see this link: which is an article about this worrying new twist of text bullying. http://www.textually.org/textually/archives/2010/05/025979.htm

Briefly discuss some of the ways that digital images could, or are, being used in occupational therapy practice

One way cameras are being used in OT pracice is for recommendations on building modifications .
Also video camera are very useful for social skill training as you can observe your own behaviour and see what you are obviously doing wrong i.e body language.
The occupational therapist at my old school enabled a young person with cerebral palsy to mount his digital camera on his camera and use a large switch. When he wanted the photos he was able to edit these on his lap top with the same switch .
Digital imaging is so useful in empowering people and can be used in many ways people with communication problems often find it easier to communicate over pictures .I have seen this many times with people on the Autism ,Spectrum, with people being sent home with pictures or emailing pictures,.
I have also seen people be very motivated in digital imaging or messing around on a photo.
Basically In some fields digital imaging can be a very powerful tool, because of its cheapness and instantaneous.
